Kentwood Hardwood Floor Finishes: What Matters
A hardwood floor is only as good as its finish – it’s the protective layer that keeps your floor looking beautiful for years. A high-quality finish guards against scratches, spills, daily foot traffic, and moisture, all while letting the natural wood grain shine through.
At Cabinets Core, we carry Kentwood hardwood floors because their finish process is one of the most reliable in the industry. Instead of focusing on “how many coats,” Kentwood uses a carefully engineered combination of layers – each with a specific purpose – created in partnership with world-leading finish manufacturers like PPG and Klumpp.

Every board receives seven to eight UV-cured coating layers, including high-performance sealers that add strength, clarity, and long-term durability. And unlike many brands, Kentwood tests every production run through rigorous quality control and third-party labs to ensure consistent performance.
A good finish doesn’t just look smooth on day one – it protects your investment for decades.
Hardwood Flooring Seattle Care Guide
When you bring Kentwood hardwood flooring into your home, you’re investing in a surface meant to last for decades. Whether you installed Couture, Kentwood, or Abode collections, proper care will keep your floors looking beautiful and performing at their best – from the first day through many years of Seattle living.
Everyday Care: How to Keep Your Kentwood Floors Looking Their Best
Kentwood floors are factory-finished with a high-performance polyurethane coating — durable, low-maintenance, and made for everyday living. A few simple habits will go a long way.
1. Clean Regularly
Sweep or vacuum (no beater bar) to remove dust and grit that can scratch the surface.
2. Protect Entry Points
Use breathable mats at doors to catch sand and moisture. Avoid rubber-backed mats.
3. Shield High-Use Areas
Place mats near sinks, stoves, and work zones to reduce everyday wear.
4. Wipe Spills Fast
Clean up liquids immediately. Never wet mop or leave standing water.
5. Maintain Proper Conditions
Keep your home between 60–80°F and 30–50% humidity to prevent wood movement.
6. Radiant Heat Care
Floor temperature should stay below 82°F (28°C) and changes should be gradual (2°F at a time).
7. Protect from Furniture & Footwear
Use felt pads on all furniture and replace as needed. Avoid high heels, cleats, and sharp objects.
8. Pet Care
Trim pet nails regularly to minimize scratches.
9. Move Heavy Items Safely
Lift or use moving pads — never drag appliances across the floor.
10. Expect Natural Color Change
Wood will age with light exposure. Avoid rugs for the first 60 days, then rotate rugs and furniture for even coloration.
How to Clean Your Hardwood Floors
For deep cleaning, Kentwood recommends:
✔ THERAPY by Kentwood™ Spray Cleanser
Available from your dealer.
✘ Avoid:
- Household cleaners
- Oils, soaps, waxes
- Abrasive powders
- Steam cleaners (this voids the warranty)
Proper cleaning protects both the finish and your warranty coverage.
Important: Understanding Open Grain Contamination
When textured or open-grain wood meets drywall dust, it can create a paste that settles deep into knots and grain patterns.
This happens when:
- Drywall work is done after flooring installation
- Floors are exposed to silt, dust, or paint residue
- Wet mopping pushes contaminants into the grain
This issue is not covered by warranty.
